NAWBO Columbus

Communications Committee

The committee that makes sure the work is seen.

The Communications Committee promotes the visibility of NAWBO Columbus to the public, creates and distributes ongoing communications, and handles general marketing for chapter events and resources.

That's the description. Here's what it actually means under this presidency.

What's Changing

About communications this term

Member storytelling becomes the engine.

People join organizations where they can see themselves succeeding. The most powerful communications tool this chapter has is the stories of its members — contracts won, businesses scaled, partnerships formed, certifications earned, leadership growth, community impact. The committee will lead the systematic capture and distribution of those stories. Weekly. Across channels.

External visibility becomes intentional.

The chapter's external value — to corporations, to public officials, to potential partners, to media — should be sharper than it has been. Communications will work with the President and Public Policy to make sure NAWBO Columbus is recognized as a respected regional economic and business leadership partner.

Channels are used strategically.

Email, social media, video, podcasts, member spotlights, and direct outreach each have a purpose. The committee will be deliberate about which channel does what, who it reaches, and how the channels work together.

Asks

What this committee will deliver

  • A consistent cadence of member stories, partner spotlights, and chapter wins across channels
  • Visibility for committee work that often happens quietly — Roundtables, Public Policy, Corporate Partners — so members understand the full breadth of what their dues support
  • Coordination with Programming so events are promoted with the substance behind them, not just date and time
  • Coordination with Membership so storytelling supports recruitment and retention
  • Visibility for board members, committee leaders, and volunteers who deserve recognition for the work they are doing

Who It's For

Members who…

  • Enjoy writing, designing, telling stories, or producing content
  • Have a marketing, PR, or communications background — or want to develop one
  • Want a flexible volunteer role that does not require lots of evening meetings
  • Want to shape how the chapter shows up in the broader Columbus business community

You do not need professional communications experience. You need a willingness to spread the word and a sense of what makes a good story.
